CODE OF CONDUCT

FOR UNIVERSITY OF GORAŽDE

Goražde, Septembar, 2014.

On the basis of article no. 53, point 2, under section b) of BPK’s Law on Higher Education (“Official Gazette” of BPK no. 2/10 and 12/14), of article no. 35, point 2, under section d) of Statute of International University of Goražde, the Senate, on session held on September 26th 2014, brings:

CODE OF CONDUCT AND TEACHING ETHICS

Article 1

This code attributes the moral and ethical principles that teachers and associates who perform their teaching activities at International University of Goražde are required to adhere to.

Article 2

The basis of teaching ethics is humanity, integrity and righteousness. The teacher accepts ethical norms as a set of principles that guide him in teaching as well as in his private life. The teacher adjusts his work to these principles.

Article 3

The teacher participates in social life and applies his knowledge to the well-being of the community.

The teacher is kind, respectful and tolerant towards his colleagues, co-workers and students.

In organizing his work, he acts impartially and fairly. The teacher enhances his reputation and vocation and confirms the results of his professional and scientific work.

Article 4

The teacher continuously improves the profession by publishing his own results, sharing knowledge, data and experiences with co-workers and students and through work in scientific and professional associations.

The teacher points to unprofessional unsubstantiated claims related to his or her profession, avoiding and preventing actions that would underestimate, impair or dishonor the reputation and dignity of an individual or institution.

Teacher expresses opinion on professional issues publicly if it is based on material scientific facts, founded upon scientific truth.

Article 5

The teacher pays special attention to teaching obligations. He fulfills his teaching obligations in accordance with the latest scientific knowledge and technological solutions. He holds classes regularly, for a fixed term and duration, continuously improving his quality, while also respecting Contract of Engagement with International University of Goražde.

Article 6

The teacher leads teaching process in a manner that he trains students to accept, on the basis of acquired knowledge and skills, the advancement of science, technology and society.

The teacher should be available to students to provide explanations and discuss issues related to mastering the curriculum. The teacher respects the principles of nonviolent communication in the educational process, in dialogue with students and outside the classroom. The teacher should recommend the available textbooks, manuals, scripts and other literature needed to master the curriculum.

Article 7

The teacher continuously monitors the student’s acquisition of knowledge. Final assessment is made on the basis of stated activity in lectures and exercises, fulfilled obligations, demonstrated knowledge, presented facts and student’s understanding of the matter, acquired skills and demonstrated ability to apply the stated in real situations. Teacher bases requirements on the accessibility of all the resources necessary to master the established curriculum.

Article 8

The teacher will not allow any interests in another job to undermine his teaching obligations. If the teacher performs certain permitted activities outside the International University of Goražde, he / she takes care not to be in conflict with the interests of this institution.

The teacher will not encourage, accept or perform activities that are contrary to the humane aims of the teaching call and which could adversely affect both his / her reputation and position and the reputation and dignity of the International University of Goražde.

Article 9

The teacher has a duty and obligation to provide an academic “youth”, introducing into this process those who, in their scientific, professional, pedagogical, moral and ethical values, fully deserve it.

Teacher seeks to ensure the possibility of scientific and professional development and advancement to all persons with whom it cooperates without bias.

Teachers foster a creative atmosphere and superior professional attitude towards work, co-workers and students.

Article 10

The relationship between teachers is based on collegiality, mutual respect, respect for knowledge, expertise and dignity, assistance and creative collaboration, and professional and human solidarity.

The teacher seeks not to directly or indirectly hurt the professional reputation, promotion or performance of another teacher.

If he / she believes that a particular teacher violates the norms of moral, legal or correct work, he / she will alert the responsible person at the International University of Goražde.

Article 11

By accepting the principles in this code, the teacher undertakes to implement them consistently and exclusively in the interest of his reputation and dignity, the reputation of the International University of Goražde, the reputation and dignity of students and all other persons with whom he cooperates, and in the interest of the profession and the jobs he performs.

Article 12

Failure to comply with the principles set out in this Code, or their violation, constitutes a violation of the honor and duty of the teacher, and may therefore be liable to the founder.

Article 13

This Code shall enter into force on the day of its adoption.
