Construction or civil engineering is the applied science, the oldest and most significant branch of technology. Construction technique deals with the construction of all kinds of architectural buildings, roads, railways, bridges, tunnels, water supply systems, sewage systems, land reclamation facilities, watercourses management and utilization of water power (hydroelectric power stations), power plants and other facilities for the production of all goods. We call a person involved in civil engineering a civil engineer.
According to the type and nature of the work, there are two main directions or branches of construction techniques.
One way is the construction of buildings. Buildings stand out with their main parts above the ground, so they are built in height, so the construction of buildings is often called high-rise construction. Building is a literal translation of the internationalized ancient Greek word ‘architecton’ – architecture. Building construction is also called construction in our country, but architecture is the most common term.
On the other hand, we have construction of roads – roads, railways, bridges, tunnels, and hydro-technical structures – water supply, sewerage, hydro-technical regulations, land reclamation, utilization of water power and navigability of rivers and canals. The aforementioned objects are built mostly on the ground itself, though not the rule.
Such construction is often referred to as civil engineering, and more commonly referred to as civil construction.
